Carbon Fork for 20" Folder/Recumbent Use

Would it be possible to build a 20" wheel, disc brake/v-brake carbon fork for folder/recumbent use. I have done quite a bit of searching and can find no such fork. There are suspension forks available but they are obviously heavy. It's seems there is a void you could fill with such a fork.

Hi

Yes it is possible and something we could look at. Could anyone else interested in a fork like this please contact us, so we can gauge the level of interest.

Thanks

It's a rather small market.. 20" specific carbon fork with disc brake mounting tab.

What kind of rake? Steertube size? linear-pull brake tabs also? maybe additional brake mounting for road brake caliper?

I guess small fork crown would be ideal to maximize the clearance for chain if you're using the fork on a recumbent bike.

Maybe also include other wheel sizes for 16", 24" and 26"?

No one seems to be showing any interest but would it be possible to build a one-off fork for me. I'm looking for a disc specific, carbon tube fork for a 20" wheel. Basically your 26" fork with shorter legs.

We can build you a special fork & we have built special forks for various companies & people from time to time. It comes at a price of course, and you need to be prepared to wait too.

Time is not really an issue.

What would be the cost?

by dyamamoto     Thu Apr 17, 2008

Typically starting is the region of 2-3x the price of a regular fork & upwards.

I can understand why and would be willing to pay 2X the normal price (eBay price of $169.00US ?). 3X the normal price is a bit expensive. I would like you to build the fork but what would be the actual cost? There is quite a big difference betwee 2X and 3X the normal price. Basically I would like you to build the CC-F0325 fork but with shorter legs for a 20" wheel.

Its would be more like 3 times the regular fork price which is on www.carboncycles.cc

We can make the following fork for your budget price. This fork is for 20" wheels and has V brake mounts only. It has been built before and tested to DIN & EN standards.

Spec:
Steerer: Al7075
Crown: forged Al 6061
3K woven carbon fiber stanchions
Forged Al 6061 Dropouts
Length 315mm
Offset 32mm
Weight 685gm

Expected Waiting Time: 2 to 4 months.

I know you would not condone this but I am shortening a 26" fork. I do have experience bonding composites and aluminum. Can I purchase the front drop outs (disc brake specific) and the inner aluminum sleeve for the disc brake side fork leg?

Hi dyamamoto, I have checked into this. Unfortunately if we sold you fork parts it would look as if we're promoting the idea of customers modifying our forks. As you rightly say, we don't condone it, so can't sell the parts separately. Sorry about that, I hope you understand.

Can I buy just an aluminum inner sleeve? I will be using it as a shim.

I'll check what we can do.

Can you send us your email contact details? Please send to the email address on the help page on this website (don't put your email address on the forum).

Thanks
